Tonight's The Night

That's right folks, tonight is the night that the possible future leader of the free world (as we like to think of ourselves) finally is allowed out of the closet to make her opening address to attendees of the RNC Convention and the rest of the United States, provided they want to waste their time. Ever since McCain announced his choice for a running mate, Alaska's governor Sarah Palin, she has been closeted away from public view, while daily new rumors and scandals seem to erupt around his selection. Many have been well documented by blogger/diarists at the DailyKos, and of course the Republicans have taken great pains to claim that all the rumors about Palin come the left wing radical fringe who post there. Some of the accusations mostly made by blogs are as ridiculus as the right wing smears forwarded about Obama being a Muslim

terrorist. Others have not yet fully explored or even noted by the MSM, and could spell deeper troubles for the McSame/Palin ticket then a class I hurricane.

One of the most interesting scandals posted on DK is a two parter and can be viewed here (pt. 1) and here (pt. 2). Both diaries have plenty of press references to back up the author's claims, and totally destroys the McCain camp's image of her as a fiscally responsible governor. The diarist is RobertoW, and all of his posts about Palin are well researched in a manner that truly follows a journalistic model (take note MSM and learn). Other stories that paint this woman to be a religious wacko are surfacing, but have not truly caught fire outside of the Huffington Post. Needless to say, they make the so called Rev. Wright scandal seem like a harmless nursery tale about a mean ole billy goat. Mysteriously, the Govenor's speech to a graduating ministry class there, and her pastor's more fiery sermons seem to have server problems all of a sudden, and have disappeared.

Needless to say if you research some of the stories about Palin's church, it is truly scary. Then when you add that with her credentials for the job of Vice President, without hardly any vetting by McCain. Then to kind of throw gasoline on the fire, our good friend John Soltz writes in the Huffington Post today that both McCain and Palin in particular violated national security by releasing details of Palin's son's deployment to Iraq and where he is to be deployed. That's classified. Shades of Valerie Plame. This should give a big boost to both of their Commander in Chief credentials.

The last is comical as both Peggy Noonan, and Michael Murphy kind of rip Palin and the GOP to shreds in a piece caught on tape, but off camera. Both are right wingnut pundits on MSNBC. The whole issue of Sarah Palin is very sad as I suggested in my proceeding article, and more and more it appears the GOP is on it's death bed. What angers and both scares me as well is that in it's self inflicted suicidal behavior, the Republicans could drag the rest of us with them. The least thing that will come of this is that the American people will read between the lines, and smell the crap being shoveled in their faces and vote them out. That does not mean the rest of the world will not notice, nor will they forget how we totally turned on our own selves, against our best interests. How is our next President then supposed to restore our standing in the world and convince others we honestly have their best interests at heart? Unlike here, other countries get the news about what goes on here. They do not allow their media to isolate them the we have. They watch, they see, they listen and they judge. Many, like myself look at Sarah Palin and her religious affiliation and see how the Republican Party has been high jacked by evangelical right wingers who openly admit the feel these are the final days and seek Armageddon. Remember we are a "nuclear power".

The Founding Fathers put that little piece in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights about religious freedom for a reason. George W. Bush and Sarah Palin along with a minor host of other bit players seem to have forgotten that lesson. They argue that this nation was founded on "christian principals". Yes, it was. Remember though back then they didn't have radio, TV, the Internet, planes, etc so their knowledge and experiences were limited to Christian doctrine. Yes, many were Christians, yet they still had the wisdom and foresight to ensure at least by law, there would be no state recognized religion. They were at least familiar of the extremism religion can breed and the persecution that comes with the desire for an all expense paid trip to heaven. Yet evangelicals and others still try to shove their faith down others throats and hijack a country. A word of caution to those folks. As history has shown, the pendulum swings both ways. Continue this path and you may find that people get tired and angry and push back. Then where will you be able to practice your faith? More and more I am beginning to hear conservative Republicans grumble about getting religion "out of their party". Maybe hidden under all the crap of this campaign and the last eight years there is some sanity after all.
In case you get bored tonight here is Neil Young with "Tonight's the Night" and "Like A Hurricane" in honor of Sarah Palin and the dissaster she brings.
